One hundred and twenty-eight Nigerians stranded in Libya have returned to the country. They arrived the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos around 5 pm on Thursday and were received by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency. The returnees were brought back by the International Organisation arrived, with six of them in urgent need of medical attention. According to officials 126 of them were males and two of them were females. Many of the returnees recounted the tales of cruel treatment meted out to them at different detention camps in Libya. They called on the Federal Government to facilitate the return of other Nigerians stranded in Libya especially those in prisons who they say die on daily basis due to the poor conditions of the prisons. The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on Saturday said the Federal Government was determined to stop the sale of drugs in open markets in the country at the end of 2018. Adewole made this known when he visited the site for the construction of a Pharmaceutical Coordinated Wholesale Centre at Oba, near Onitsha in Anambra. The Federal Government had announced July 31, 2017 as the deadline to end the sale of drugs in open markets. “May be people still believe that the Federal Government is joking, government does not joke. “We do not want fake drugs or falsified labels; we just want genuine drugs and the only way to do so is centralizing the drug market so that we can determine what comes in and what goes out. “We have agreed to extend the deadline till Dec. 31, 2018 and that will be the last extension.
